Rural Economy and Agriculture Society in Norrbotten,
Sweden
The Rural Economy and Agriculture Society of Norrbotten County
is a modern knowledge based organisation with a long and old tradition.
It was founded at 1814 by the government of Sweden, to provide
farmers with support. Today the association develop and support
small scale business in the rural areas by counselling and project
development within the field of agriculture, tourism, fishing,
environment, food production, gardening and business development
in general
The society in Norrbotten is part of a national network with
associations for rural development and agriculture in each county.
Rural Economy and Agriculture Society in Sweden is an independent
membership- based association. The membership is open and available
for all. Within the network the co-operation and exchange of information
and knowledge is carried out. In Norrbotten there are 5 000 members
most of them representing small-scale business within farming,
tourism, gardening, handicraft and food-production. There are
23 local societies in Norrbotten, spread all over the county.
The organisation provides expertise within

- Horticulture
- Cultivation
- Fishing
- Environmental protection
- Marketing
- Tourism
The work is carried out both in the field and on the office.
The work is driven by concern of the environment and a sustainable
development of the economy in the rural areas in Norrbotten.
