Mandate
Our sustainable and diverse economy will be built on the strengths
of self-reliance and the wise use of natural resources that incorporates
traditional lifestyles with a modern economy for the long-term
viability and benefit of our children and our future.
Core Functions
The core functions the department executes in support of sustainable
natural resource development and economic development:
- Diamond Projects - Energy
- Industrial Initiatives - Investment and Economic Analysis
- Mackenzie Valley Pipeline Office - Minerals, Oil and Gas
- Tourism and Parks
The primary role of Tourism and Parks division is to develop
policies and implement initiatives for the establishment and operation
or parks, historic sites and visitor facilities. The division
also promotes and supports the tourism industry associations by
providing support for tourism marketing and product development
initiatives.
The South Slave Region of Industry, Tourism and Investment has
taken a lead role in the campaign to bring both eco and sustainable
tourism to the forefront with respect to tourism development in
the NWT.
